Here are my Top Ten Reads of 2007:

Lost and Found by Carolyn Parkhurst – having adored her first novel, Lorelei’s Secret, I couldn’t wait to read this book and it didn’t disappoint. Taking the idea of behind-the-scenes of a reality show, the reader’s introduced to some fabulous characters and gets an insight into some extraordinary problems.

The Diamond of Drury Lane, Cat among the Pigeons and Den of Thieves by Julia Golding – the first three fabulous instalments of Cat Royal’s adventures. These books are such good fun and a fabulous insight into 18th century London.

Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier- I can’t believe I haven’t read this before. I loved it! Dark, grim, romantic, you can almost feel the cruel winds of Bodmin Moor.

The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory – more intrigue at the court of Henry VIII told from the viewpoint of three very different and charismatic heroines.

Emily Davis and Village Centenary by Miss Read – two more lovely tales of country life and strife. I also adored Tiggy – the tale of a stray cat and her kittens.

Holes by Louis Sachar – one of those books that pains a writer to read because you keep saying to yourself, I wish I’d written this! Fabulously original with a great back-story and captivating characters caught up in the weirdest of situations.

Before I Die by Jenny Downham – a moving and thought-provoking account of a teenager’s last few months.

Five go to Smuggler’s Top by Enid Blyton – I remember this being my favourite Famous Five book and was nervous about reading it again. But I shouldn’t have worried because I think I enjoyed it just as much!

Scorpia by Anthony Horowitz – I caught up with all the Alex Rider books this year and this has to be my favourite. A fabulous pacy adventure with great settings and wonderfully wicked villains.

And my top read for 2007:

Relic by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. A fast-paced, gripping novel about a beast stalking the New York Museum of Natural History. Fabulous characters all with distinctive personalities, vivid settings and great touches of humour too.
